Bei IDW, wo man gerne mit Lizenzen arbeitet, hat man vor kurzem auch damit begonnen, Titel aus dem MGM-Stock einfach als Comic zu adaptieren. Eine ziemlich langweilige Angelegenheit, denn Filmadaptionen waren mal zu Zeiten, da es noch keine DVDs gab und man VHS-Kassetten nur für sehr viel Geld erwerben konnte, eine echte Alternative, um enigstens irgendetwas von dem Film besitzen zu können. Heutzutage machen sie keinen Sinn, da man ja auch den Film kaufen kann. In dem Fall ist das MOTEL HELL (hier zu Lande in einer schönen Edition von CMV erhältlich). Geschrieben von Matt Nixon, gezeichnet von Matt Moreno, dürfte das Cover von Tim Bradstreet noch das Beste an dem Ganzen sein. Um das Ding dann doch noch ein wenig interessanter wirken zu lassen, verkündet man im Katalog noch: “An updated remake of the classic horror flick!” Vermutlich wird das eine oder andere Opfer ein Handy bei sich haben. Damit ist Kevin O’Connors Film dann doch noch geupdated worden.
Dass es auch interessanter geht, beweist wiederum Marvel. Dort wird die Disney-Connection deutlich, denn da man nun Teil des Maus-Konzerns ist, ist man natürlich auch der perfekte Hort für einen TRON: LEGACY-Comic, der nicht einfach nur eine Geschichte adaptiert, sondern als Bindeglied zwischen Originalfilm und Sequel fungiert. TRON: THE BETRAYAL erscheint im Oktober. Die Miniserie, geschrieben von Jay Nitz und gezeichnet von Andie Tong, besteht aus zwei Heften mit jeweils 56 Seiten Umfang. Das Cover stammt von Salvador Larocca. Der Solicitation-Text klingt nicht uninteressant:
Following the events of the original TRON, the year is 1983 and Kevin Flynn is now in charge of Encom. He’s built it into the largest videogame company in the world. But that’s not all Kevin has accomplished – he’s also secretly built the Grid, a digital world filled with living programs!
